The Project This project involves the renovation of the existing A1/A6 state road, virtually along its entire length. The project generally involves a limited widening of the asphalt pavement at the location of the existing road bed. Three specific sites require a more significant relocation/adjustment with potential geotechnical areas for attention. This includes the widening of the bridge across the Vecht river, the connection between the A1 and A9 (Gaasperdammerweg) and the reconstruction of the junction between the A1 and A6 (Muiderberg junction).
In accordance with the design produced by the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management, the widening of this civil work must be set on prefab foundation piles. Prefab piles are also used for the abutments. Due to the limited working height, the decision was to use internally driven tubular piles for the intermediate supports. The existing civil work was constructed over thirty years ago and is founded on steel on top of the old road bed of the A1 state road.
Muiderberg Junction The on and off-ramp will be adjusted at the Muiderberg junction. Significant heightening is required to accommodate the planned adjustments, which is expected to cause subsidence. A recommendation was issued in this respect, including the projected subsidence and a test based on the residual subsidence requirement.
