The construction of a quay for the new tank terminal being built by HES International in Rotterdam has officially been awarded to a consortium of Royal VolkerWessels company Van Hattum en Blankevoort, Boskalis and TBI unit Mobilis. The contract is valued at more than €100 million.
The terminal will enable HES to facilitate the storage and transhipment of oil products. The project complies with the highest safety and environmental standards. The 27-hectare large terminal will house 52 tanks with a capacity of around 1.3 million cubic metres. It will also feature a quay that can accommodate even the largest oceangoing tankers.
The transhipment of oil products in Rotterdam has grown strongly in recent years. In the past 20 years the volume has nearly quintupled to around 90 million tonnes. Reasons for this include the growing global trade in oil products and differences between supply and demand for oil products on the various continents. The HES Tank Terminal will further strengthen the competitiveness of the port of Rotterdam.
The project awarded to VolkerWessels, Boskalis and Mobilis includes the following construction and other activities:
Construction is expected to begin early next year and to be completed at the end of 2019.
