The European China Centre Rotterdam will rise along the Rijnhaven in Rotterdam-Zuid over the coming years. This will become an international, multifunctional complex for living, working, shopping and relaxing. To make room for the start of construction this summer, the project office recently moved from the building location to a new office along the Maashaven.
The sale and rental of apartments, offices, shops and business premises in the European China Centre Rotterdam is in full swing.
The opening of the new office on 3 March 2010 was performed by two representatives of the Chinese and Dutch project developers. The opening was preceded by speeches by Dietmar Werner, member of the Board of Directors of ECC Rotterdam BV, Ivo Weekenborg, Director of Ontwikkelingsbedrijf Rotterdam and Wu Mingxin, Economic Consul at the Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands.
Shanghai and Rotterdam
The European China Centre Rotterdam is a joint project of the Shanghai Construction Group and Volker Wessels Vastgoed project developers.
Dietmar Werner is positive about the mutual collaboration. "We are impressed by the efficiency with which the Shanghai Construction Group operates and we have in the meantime learned a great deal from the collaboration with our Chinese partner." Ivo Weekenborg emphasised that the European China Centre Rotterdam is an example of the excellent relationship between the twinned cities of Rotterdam and Shanghai. The Economic Consul Wu Mingxin also praised the bilateral relationship between the Netherlands and China, particularly between Shanghai and Rotterdam. "In spite of the global economic recession, the Netherlands remained China's second largest trade partner in the European Union. The upcoming World Expo in Shanghai offers the Netherlands, in particular Rotterdam, a platform to present itself. In this respect, the European China Centre Rotterdam symbolises a bridge between Shanghai and Rotterdam, but also between China and the Netherlands," according to Wu Mingxin.
European China Centre Rotterdam
The European China Centre Rotterdam offers offices, apartments, a hotel, restaurants, a supermarket, Chinese specialty shops and conference and event facilities. This unique project will become the ideal meeting place for ‘East and West' and consequently combines the best of Dutch and Chinese culture. It is located in one of the most beautiful and central sites in Rotterdam with a beautiful view of the water, the Rijnhaven area and the Wilhelmina pier. This project is part of the large-scale inner city development near the Rijnhaven area.
The European China Centre Rotterdam is being jointly developed by the Shanghai Construction Group and VolkerWessels Vastgoed. They established ECC Rotterdam BV for this purpose. Start of construction is scheduled for the coming summer and project completion is projected for the first half of 2013.
